Keep tabs on your tax refund

Monday - 3/17/2014, 4:28am  ET

UNDATED (AP) -- If the federal government owes you an income tax refund, you have more options than simply sitting around waiting for that check or direct deposit from Uncle Sam.

The IRS typically will issue refunds in less than 21 days. But you don't need to just wait and wonder. You can check the status of your refund on IRS.gov, under the "Where's My Refund" tool.

The IRS also lets you check the status on your smartphone using an app that's named "IRS2Go" -- that's "I-R-S number-2 G-O."
