UNDATED (AP) -- Millions of low- and moderate-income taxpayers are missing a big opportunity to get cash back. It's the Earned Income Tax Credit, which is refundable -- meaning it actually helps them get money back, sometimes even more than the taxes they paid.
H&R Block senior tax adviser Richard Gartland says it can be substantial, as much as $6,000 for a family with three or more kids and parents using the filing status "married filing jointly."
But many just leave that money with Uncle Sam. Gartland says "one in five people who are eligible for it didn't apply."
