Sunday - 1/26/2014, 3:30pm  ET

BAGHDAD (AP) -- Car bombings and shootings have killed nine people across Iraq today, while militants kidnapped soldiers in Anbar province.

Officials in the northern city of Kirkuk (keer-KOOK') say three car bombs exploded simultaneously in separate residential neighborhoods, killing four people and wounding.

Another car bomb went off near a Sunni mosque 20 miles north of Baghdad, killing three people and wounding 13 others.

In Baghdad, a former army officer and his wife were killed in a drive-by shooting. Police also found three bodies around the capital with their hands and feet tied, all killed by what appeared to be close-range gunshots to the head.

In Anbar province, clashes continued between security forces and militants linked to al-Qaida who have taken over parts of two major cities.

Anbar's deputy governor says several army vehicles were either destroyed or seized by gunmen.

Footage posted online appeared to show five men dressed in Iraqi army uniforms, sitting in the back of a pickup as shouting onlookers and gunmen called them "infidels" and "agents."
