PORTSMOUTH, Va. (AP) -- The Coast Guard is investigating a fake distress call near Beaufort, N.C.
The Coast Guard says a radio caller reporting having five adults and two children on his vessel that was taking on water early Sunday.
A Marine Corps helicopter assisted in the search, along with a Coast Guard boat and members of local fire departments.
The Coast Guard is seeking the public's help in locating the person who made the fake distress call and is offering a reward of up to $2,000.
