PETERSBURG, Va. - Petersburg is changing its city seal to correct a reference to Virginia.
The current seal contains the words "State of Virginia." Virginia is a commonwealth.
City spokeswoman Joanne Williams tells The Progress-Index ( http://bit.ly/TokSgR) that City Manager William Johnson noticed the oversight.
Williams says the current seal was first designed in the 1990s.
Petersburg's oldest known seal appeared in the 1800s. Williams says the city still has the original wax stamp.
