WASHINGTON (AP) — A new poll shows a smaller gap between the District of Columbia’s top two mayoral candidates than previous surveys had indicated.
The poll released Wednesday by Economic Growth D.C. showed Democratic mayoral nominee Muriel Bowser with the support of 35 percent of likely voters. Independent candidate David Catania was second with 27 percent, and independent Carol Schwartz got 11 percent. Twenty-seven percent were undecided.
A poll released last month by The Washington Post showed Bowser with a 17-point lead over Catania.
A Democrat has won every mayoral election in the District.
Economic Growth D.C. is a pro-business advocacy group that is not backing a candidate. The poll of 1,023 likely voters was conducted by Frederick Polls of Alexandria, Virginia. The margin of error is three percentage points.
