BUENA VISTA, Va. -- All seven candidates on November's statewide election ballot turned out for the annual political parade and speeches in Buena Vista, but the leanest turnout and lowest rate of participation in decades seemed to reflect voter weariness with the choices before them.

In close succession, Republican Ken Cuccinelli and Terry McAuliffe half-jogged, half-walked the mile-long parade route, but the unpopular gubernatorial candidates found perhaps half as many spectators along the way.

Forty-four-year-old Tammy Floyd may have said it best when asked about this year's acrid governor's race. "Oh, Lord," she said and rolled her eyes. Normally a Republican voter, she said she doubted she'd vote this fall.

Labor Day starts the final sprint to election day. Covington, about 50 miles to the west, is also host to a political parade Monday.
