Ga. hospital: Nurse who had Ebola to be released

ATLANTA (AP) — An Emory University Hospital spokeswoman says a 29-year-old Dallas nurse who was treated for Ebola will be released.

Emory spokeswoman Holly Korschun tells The Associated Press that Amber Vinson will be leaving the hospital after a 1 p.m. news conference Tuesday to make a statement after tests showed she’s virus-free.

Vinson was a nurse at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas and cared for Thomas Eric Duncan, a Liberian man who died of Ebola. Her case gained increased attention after it was revealed she flew from Texas to Ohio and back before she was diagnosed.

Vinson’s family announced Oct. 22 that doctors could no longer detect the virus in Vinson’s body.

Vinson was one of two nurses who became infected while caring for Duncan. The other, Nina Pham, was released Oct. 24 from a hospital attached to the National Institutes of Health.
