3 patients at Chinese nursing home castrated

BEIJING (AP) — Police in northeastern China have detained a man accused of cutting off the testicles of three patients in a nursing home, state media and officials said Thursday.

The man is suspected of tying up two bedridden patients and a mentally disabled one and using a dull razor to castrate them on Tuesday, Xinhua News Agency reported. A 60-year-old victim lost both his testicles while the other two victims, aged 53 and 80, lost one each.

Xinhua reported that the victims identified the man as an employee at the home in Qinggang County in Heilongjiang province, but that a staff member said he was a mentally disabled patient.

A man who answered the phone at the county police department said the suspect was under police interrogation.

A county propaganda official, who only gave her surname, Yang, confirmed the Xinhua report but wouldn’t give more details.
