NEW YORK (AP) -- Stocks are edging higher again this morning. The S&P 500 is extending its run of positive trading days which now stands at five. It's gained eight points. The Dow added close to 70 points in the first hour of trading while the Nasdaq is up about 30. Netflix is a hot stock this morning. The video streaming service is up 7 percent after its first-quarter earnings soared.
WASHINGTON (AP) -- Home sales were down last month. The National Association of Realtors says sales of existing homes edged slipped 0.2 percent in March to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 4.59 million. That's the lowest level since July 2012. Rising prices and a tight supply of available homes has been discouraging many would-be buyers.
UNDATED (AP) -- This morning's earnings reports are mixed. McDonald's says its profit slipped as global sales remained weak. In the U.S., sales fell 1.7 percent. However, Harley Davidson and Comcast both saw profits surge in the first quarter. Harley-Davidson's earnings were 18.7 percent higher than a year ago, while Comcast saw its net income increase 30 percent.
NEW YORK (AP) -- Valeant Pharmaceuticals and activist investor Bill Ackman are releasing details of their offer for the company that makes Botox. They are proposing a cash-and-stock deal for Allergan that could be worth about $45 billion. Each Allergan share would be exchanged for $48.30 in cash and 0.83 shares of Valeant Pharmaceuticals International Inc. common stock. Shareholders can choose a mix of cash and stock. Shares of both Allergan and Valeant are up in early trading.
WASHINGTON (AP) -- Google is asking nonprofit groups how they might be able to use the Web-connected eyewear Google Glass in their work. Google says the five charities that propose the best ideas by May 20 will get a free pair of the glasses, a trip to Google for training and a $25,000 grant to help make their project a reality. Google already is testing Glass with nonprofits in their field work, including conservationists at the World Wildlife Fund who have been tracking rhinos in remote areas to help protect them from poaching.
