NEW YORK (AP) -- A day after the Dow Jones industrial average closed above 15,000 for the first time, it's still trading above that level. The other major indexes are also in positive territory. With no major economic releases today, investors are focusing largely on company earnings as reporting for the first quarter draws to a close.
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- Delta Air Lines is going to start paying a quarterly dividend and buy back some of its shares. Delta says starting Sept. 10, it will pay a quarterly dividend of 6 cents per share for people who own the stock on Aug. 9. The airline also plans to buy back $500 million of its stock by mid-2016. Delta last paid a dividend in 2003. Of the large U.S. airlines, only Southwest Airlines currently pays a dividend.
WASHINGTON (AP) -- The Federal Aviation Administration says 72 airport towers and other air traffic control facilities that were slated to close at night will get to stay open. The FAA had planned to eliminate midnight shifts of air traffic controllers at 69 airport towers and two regional approach control facilities in order to meet across-the-board, automatic spending cuts required by Congress. But it now says it has decided not to eliminate the shifts.
WHITEHOUSE STATION, N.J. (AP) -- Merck is seeking approval for a new type of allergy treatment that could be an alternative to months of desensitizing shots. The drug maker says the Food and Drug Administration is reviewing its application for an immunotherapy tablet for ragweed allergies that dissolves under the tongue. The treatment is meant to gradually reduce allergic reactions over time, rather than just relieving sneezing, itching and other symptoms temporarily.
SANTA ANA, Calif. (AP) -- Disney has dropped an effort to trademark "Dia de los Muertos," the name of the traditional "Day of the Dead" holiday observed by millions in Mexico and the U.S. each November. The company says it's withdrawing a trademark request it made on May 1 that was intended to secure name rights for merchandise to accompany an animated movie inspired by the holiday. Mexicans mark the day by decorating the graves of deceased relatives and building elaborate shrines with sugar skulls.
