DEERFIELD, Ill. (AP) -- Chicago Bulls star Derrick Rose participated in five-on-five drills today, the latest step in his recovery from a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee. Coach Tom Thibodeau told reporters after practice that Rose "did what everyone else did." Rose has been sidelined since he tore his ACL late in last season's playoff-opening win over Philadelphia.
GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) -- The Green Bay Packers have released veteran center Jeff Saturday, who lost his starting job late last season. Saturday signed a two-year deal with the Packers as an unrestricted free agent last March after 13 seasons with the Indianapolis Colts. He had been the Colts' full-time starting center since 2000.
CORAL GABLES, Fla. (AP) -- University of Miami President Donna Shalala (shah-LAY'-lah) has lashed out at the NCAA, insisting that its long probe of the Hurricanes not only come to a swift end but result in no other penalties against the athletic department. Shalala called the investigation "unprofessional and unethical" after the NCAA said today it was pressing on with the case against Miami despite several missteps. The NCAA has replaced its enforcement department and has thrown out all ill-gotten information gleaned from two depositions that could have been very damaging for the Hurricanes.
DURHAM, N.C. (AP) -- Duke University says former Blue Devils star Phil Henderson has died at the age of 44. Coach Mike Krzyzewski says Henderson's mother told him that her son died Sunday at his home in the Philippines, although no cause of death was given. Henderson was a senior captain and the leading scorer on the 1989-90 Duke team that lost to UNLV in the national championship game.
UNDATED (AP) -- Paul Stastny (STAS'-nee) and Jamie McGinn scored 13 seconds apart to cap Colorado's four-goal second period in a 6-5 win over the visiting Nashville Predators. Matt Duchene had a goal and two assists in helping the Avalanche beat the Predators for the first time in 10 tries. In other NHL games this afternoon, Philadelphia clobbered the New York Islanders 7-0, and Ottawa beat New Jersey 2-1 in a shootout.
