In the name of love, matchmakers tie knot with science

WASHINGTON – Have you broken up with the love of your life? Don’t worry. With the help of facial recognition technology, you could soon be dating their double.

Dating service giant Match.com was so interested in using the technology that the company teamed up with a matchmaking company out of Los Angeles, Three Day Rule. The company is one of the biggest users of facial recognition technology.

Named after the term coined in the movie “Swingers,” Three Day Rules refers to the number of days a man should wait to call after getting a women’s phone number. The company of the same name wanted to provide a gentler way of dating.

And facial recognition technology offers users an easier way to stay within their “type.”

“People have a type and it’s not necessarily about height or race or hair color, but a lot of it is about face shape,” Talia Goldstein, the founder of Three Day Rule, told Mashable.

Software will look at the hair color, face shape, and eye shape from pictures of ex-lovers sent in by members of Match.com and Three Day Rule. The technology then narrows down that pool of potential mates to those with faces that are similar in shape to the exs’ faces. Then dating coaches with Three Day Rule take over.

Those coaches will screen potential matches and might even go on pre-dates to see if a person is compatible for the dating site user.

To take advantage of this premiere service, Match members will pay top dollar. The fee is $5,000 for six months of face mating plus the help of assigned personal matchmakers who will work to find you your soul mate.

The service is geared for members who are serious about finding their ideal “face” and don’t want to waste their time or money.

Currently this premiere service is available only in New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Chicago. But by the end of 2014, Washington will be added to the locations along with Dallas and Boston.

Ah, romance!
