NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. (AP) — The families of four students accused of hacking into computers at a public high school have reached settlements with the Newport-Mesa Unified School District and dropped out of litigation.
The Orange County Register reported Tuesday (http://bit.ly/1jen5tv ) that a fifth family who asked the county’s board of education to overturn their child’s expulsion refused to settle and remains part of the lawsuit.
Ronald Wenkart, general counsel for the Department of Education, says the four families reached agreements with the district over the expulsion agreements they signed at the height of the cheating scandal.
Eleven Corona del Mar High School students were suspected of hacking into computers to change grades with the help of a private tutor.
All 11 were expelled in January after they signed stipulated expulsion agreements with the district.
