Fed speculation continues to shake markets...Beige book, other reports due

NEW YORK (AP) -- Traders continue to speculate over when and how much the Federal Reserve will start to ease back on its stimulus program continue to send stocks into gyrations. The Dow ended Tuesday with 76-point loss, closing at 15,177. The S&P 500 fell nine points to 1,631, and the Nasdaq dropped 20 to 3,445. Futures trading augurs losses at this morning's opening.

BANGKOK (AP) -- International stock markets fell today as signs the U.S. Federal Reserve might scale back its super-loose monetary policy caused investors to trim equity investments. Benchmark crude oil ros but remained below $94 per barrel. The dollar gained against the euro but fell against the yen.

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The Federal Reserve is schedule to issue the latest beige book this afternoon, its survey of regional economic conditions. This morning, the Institute for Supply management releases its gauge of service sector activity, while the government offers first-quarter productivity data and April factory orders.

TAIPEI, Taiwan (AP) -- Software giant Microsoft has unveiled the updated version of its touch-enabled Windows 8 operating system at the world's second largest computer show in Taipei. Tami Reller, chief financial and marketing officer of the company's Windows Division, said that Windows 8.1 would be available on both PCs and tablets later this year. She spoke at the Computex show in Taiwan.

TOKYO (AP) -- Toyota is announcing a big recall. The automaker says it is recalling about 242,000 of its Prius and Lexus hybrid vehicles due to problems with their braking systems. The recall applies to about 233,000 Prius vehicles made between March and October 2009 and about 9,000 Lexus HS250h models made between June and October 2009. The Prius vehicles affected are sold worldwide. The Lexus sedans are sold in the U.S. and Japan.
