NEW YORK (AP) - News Corp. is naming Paul Cheesbrough as its chief technology officer.

Cheesbrough will set the media company's global technology strategy and help develop new digital products.

He will also oversee the transition of information technology systems related to News Corp.'s proposed split into two companies. One would operate the newspaper and publishing businesses, while the other would house TV and movie assets.

Cheesbrough most recently served as chief information officer for the company's British newspaper business, News International, which he joined in 2010. Before that, he worked on digital products at the BBC and News Corp. competitor Telegraph Media Group.

News Corp. announced the appointment Tuesday.
