LEGO space shuttle makes trek to the stars (VIDEO)

Wednesday - 3/7/2012, 12:29pm  ET

WASHINGTON - Who needs NASA and its fancy space shuttle program?

A Romanian man recently figured out a way to reach the final frontier -- or at least get pretty darn close -- using basically a helium-filled balloon and a LEGO space shuttle.

Via YouTube and his blog, Raul Oaida says he launched the block-built spacecraft from Germany due to red-tape issues in his home country. The vessel (there is no mention of any little yellow people inside the shuttle) reportedly reached an altitude of 35,000 meters -- or 21 miles.

All of this might sound a bit unbelievable. But Oaida and his helpers also attached a GPS and video camera to help track and document the voyage.

Check out the out-of-this-world results below. (h/t Mashable)
