Renault, Daimler execs to expand partnership

PARIS (AP) — Executives from Renault-Nissan and Daimler AG say their expanding partnership is on track and pledged to further grow the business.

Renault Nissan’s Carlos Ghosn and Daimler’s Dieter Zetsche said at the Paris Motor Show that the partnership has expanded four-fold to 12 projects in Europe, Asia and North America, from three when the partnership began in 2010.

Saying the tie-up with Daimler had accelerated time-to-market for Renault-Nissan vehicles, Ghosn said “We remain confident about our relationship for the foreseeable future.”

Renault-Nissan and Daimler are launching three of their joint cars this fall: the new Smart Fortwo and Smart ForFour city cars will go on sale in November, following on the September launch of the new Renault Twingo.

The two are building a jointly-owned factory in Mexico to produce Nissan Infinitis.
