Unemployment in DC holds steady from June to July

WASHINGTON (AP) — The District of Columbia’s unemployment rate is holding steady at 7.4 percent.

Federal statistics released Monday show that unemployment in the nation’s capital was unchanged from June to July. The national unemployment rate is 6.2 percent.

City officials say the District added 11,800 jobs in July. More than 10,000 of those were in the public sector and most can be attributed to the local government’s 6-week Summer Youth Employment Program.

In July 2013, the District’s unemployment rate was 8.4 percent.
