DANVILLE, Va. (AP) -- Dan River Plants plans to invest more than $1 million to expand its plant production operations, creating more than 25 jobs in Pittsylvania County.
Gov. Bob McDonnell's office said Thursday that the project will become the first official commercial venture by the Institute for Advanced Learning and Research in Danville.
Officials say Dan River Plants uses tissue culture technology to replicate high-value horticulture and grass plants for conversion into bio-energy.
A ground breaking ceremony is planned for August and hiring is expected to begin by spring 2014.
McDonnell approved a $150,000 matching grant from the Governor's Agriculture and Forestry Industries Development Fund for the project.
