Changes may soon be coming at Trenton's only hotel

Sunday - 2/17/2013, 2:01pm  ET

TRENTON, N.J. (AP) -- The public board that oversees the only hotel in New Jersey's capital city has recommended that it be re-branded as a Wyndham Hotel and run by a new management team.

The city-owned hotel in downtown Trenton has struggled financially for years. It's now a Marriott hotel, but that chain and the hotel's management firm say they won't renew their franchise agreement that ends in June.

The Times of Trenton (http://bit.ly/15n9kkf ) reports the city board decided Saturday to pursue a contract with Parsippany-based Wyndham and Maryland-based Marshall Hotels, which would manage the site's operations.

But since negotiations are ongoing, board officials declined further comment.

Trenton is still spending $1.4 million a year to pay off the costs of building the hotel a decade ago. It's located just blocks from the statehouse.
