WASHINGTON -- The conundrum of what to do with a mismatched pair of socks is something that mystifies just about every person who owns socks. Real Simple magazine offers some quick fixes for these and other laundry-related dilemmas.
Curious about how to keep that pesky footwear from wondering off? Pin socks together before tossing them into the wash. That way once they're dry, they are already matched.
Some other do-it-yourself tips:
- Undo all the buttons on dress shirts -- including the ones on the collar. This prevents tearing at the buttonholes.
- Also, pre-treat collars before every wash to keep those sweat stains away, especially during the hot summer months.
- Always wash jeans in cold water. Most denim is dyed only on the surface, making the color especially sensitive.
