Hertz Global Holdings Beats on Both Top and Bottom Lines

Hertz Global Holdings reported earnings on April 29. Here are the numbers you need to know.

For the quarter ended March 31 (Q1), Hertz Global Holdings beat slightly on revenues and beat expectations on earnings per share.

Compared to the prior-year quarter, revenue grew significantly. Non-GAAP earnings per share expanded significantly. GAAP earnings per share grew.

EPS came in at $0.21. The eight earnings estimates compiled by S&P Capital IQ predicted $0.17 per share. Non-GAAP EPS of $0.21 for Q1 were 320% higher than the prior-year quarter's $0.05 per share. GAAP EPS were $0.04 for Q1 versus -$0.13 per share for the prior-year quarter.

Margin details
For the quarter, gross margin was 44.5%, much better than the prior-year quarter. Operating margin was 10.1%, 330 basis points better than the prior-year quarter. Net margin was 0.7%, 360 basis points better than the prior-year quarter. (Margins calculated in GAAP terms.)

Looking ahead
Next quarter's average estimate for revenue is $2.74 billion. On the bottom line, the average EPS estimate is $0.47.

Next year's average estimate for revenue is $10.90 billion. The average EPS estimate is $1.90.
