Motorola Solutions Increases Sales but Misses Revenue Estimate

Motorola Solutions reported earnings on April 24. Here are the numbers you need to know.

For the quarter ended March 30 (Q1), Motorola Solutions missed estimates on revenues and met expectations on earnings per share.

EPS came in at $0.66. The 19 earnings estimates compiled by S&P Capital IQ predicted $0.67 per share. Non-GAAP EPS of $0.66 for Q1 were 12% higher than the prior-year quarter's $0.59 per share. (The prior-year quarter included -$0.01 per share in earnings from discontinued operations.) GAAP EPS of $0.68 for Q1 were 39% higher than the prior-year quarter's $0.49 per share. (The prior-year quarter included -$0.01 per share in earnings from discontinued operations.)

Margin details
For the quarter, gross margin was 48.4%, 130 basis points worse than the prior-year quarter. Operating margin was 10.9%, 140 basis points worse than the prior-year quarter. Net margin was 9.7%, 170 basis points better than the prior-year quarter. (Margins calculated in GAAP terms.)

Next quarter's average estimate for revenue is $2.25 billion. On the bottom line, the average EPS estimate is $0.86.
