Datalink Beats on Both Top and Bottom Lines

Datalink filed its 10-K on March 15. Here are the numbers you need to know.

The 10-second takeaway
For the quarter ended Dec. 31 (Q4), Datalink beat expectations on revenues and beat expectations on earnings per share.

Compared to the prior-year quarter, revenue grew significantly. Non-GAAP earnings per share grew significantly. GAAP earnings per share grew.

Gross margins shrank, operating margins expanded, net margins dropped.

Revenue details
Datalink tallied revenue of $147.3 million. The five analysts polled by S&P Capital IQ predicted revenue of $129.0 million on the same basis. GAAP reported sales were 28% higher than the prior-year quarter's $114.7 million.

EPS details
EPS came in at $0.31. The five earnings estimates compiled by S&P Capital IQ anticipated $0.23 per share. Non-GAAP EPS of $0.31 for Q4 were 29% higher than the prior-year quarter's $0.24 per share. GAAP EPS of $0.18 for Q4 were 13% higher than the prior-year quarter's $0.16 per share.

Margin details
For the quarter, gross margin was 22.2%, 130 basis points worse than the prior-year quarter. Operating margin was 3.9%, 10 basis points better than the prior-year quarter. Net margin was 2.2%, 10 basis points worse than the prior-year quarter. (Margins calculated in GAAP terms.)

Looking ahead
Next quarter's average estimate for revenue is $133.1 million. On the bottom line, the average EPS estimate is $0.18.
