Friday - 3/8/2013, 6:47am  ET

Delta Airlines announced in a press statement Wednesday that it will increase its daily and seasonal services at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), boosting its presence with eight new markets connecting to LAX, and 12% more daily seats.

Among other additions, Delta announced a new daily service to run between Nashville and Los Angeles, as well as three daily flights from LAX to Seattle. Delta also plans to launch a daily flight to Boston during the summer season, while also implementing a service to San Jose, Costa Rica, and boosting the number flights to Western cities such as Oakland, Phoenix, Sacramento, and San Jose.

Company senior vice president of Network Planning Bob Cortelyou commented on the importance of LAX to Delta's global profile, saying: "Los Angeles boasts a strong domestic revenue market and we are committed to building a network that supports customer demand both locally and around the globe...Our new service, combined with our domestic and international partners, positions Delta to be Los Angeles' preferred carrier."

Many of the changes will occur before or during this summer, when Delta expects to maintain 118 peak-day departures to 40 non-stop destinations.
