Flowserve Crushes Earnings Estimates

Flowserve reported earnings on Feb. 21. Here are the numbers you need to know.

The 10-second takeaway
For the quarter ended Dec. 31 (Q4), Flowserve met expectations on revenues and crushed expectations on earnings per share.

Compared to the prior-year quarter, revenue grew. Non-GAAP earnings per share increased significantly. GAAP earnings per share expanded significantly.

Margins grew across the board.

Flowserve recorded revenue of $1.33 billion. The 12 analysts polled by S&P Capital IQ wanted to see revenue of $1.32 billion on the same basis. GAAP reported sales were the same as the prior-year quarter's.

EPS details
EPS came in at $3.62. The 14 earnings estimates compiled by S&P Capital IQ averaged $2.84 per share. Non-GAAP EPS of $3.62 for Q4 were 61% higher than the prior-year quarter's $2.25 per share. GAAP EPS of $2.82 for Q4 were 25% higher than the prior-year quarter's $2.25 per share.

Margin details
For the quarter, gross margin was 33.7%, 50 basis points better than the prior-year quarter. Operating margin was 15.0%, 20 basis points better than the prior-year quarter. Net margin was 10.7%, 80 basis points better than the prior-year quarter.

Looking ahead
Next quarter's average estimate for revenue is $1.12 billion. On the bottom line, the average EPS estimate is $2.05.

Next year's average estimate for revenue is $4.99 billion. The average EPS estimate is $10.29.
