The next thing in hotel technology? Robots, of course

It was only a matter of time before the robot invasion, wasn’t it?

We thought they’d invade our workforce or our armed forces. But it turns out, they’re coming into our hotels.

When you check into one of Starwood Hotel’s Aloft hotels, get ready to meet A.L.O. (pronounced “el-oh” – you don’t want to offend him), the hotel’s first “Botler” (that’s “robot butler” to you and me).

Remember how you used to have to call the front desk every time you forgot your toothbrush or needed more towels and wait for a human being? Now its Botlers will deliver the items right to you.

A.L.O. is being piloted at the Aloft in Cupertino, California, with a launch date of Aug. 20. If all goes well, we could start seeing them throughout the chain.

One big question remains: How much do you tip a Botler?

You can check out the Botler here.
