The first Dupont Circle rooftop pool will be open to the public for a price

Billing itself as the Dupont Circle neighborhood’s only public rooftop pool, the rooftop at the Embassy Row Hotel on Massachusetts Avenue is preparing to open next week after a $500,000 renovation.

Originally meant to be available to only hotel guests, Destination Hotels & Resorts, the hotel’s owner, has decided to open the use of the pool to the public, but it will cost you.

Memberships will be available for the summer for $500 per person; there will be 50 memberships available. In addition, there will be a few day passes per day given out at a cost of $25 per person.

The renovated rooftop includes teak seating, new upholstery and a new food and beverage menu from a new chef, Carlo de Leon. The menu will include whitefish tacos, local sausages, a crab cake sandwich and the elusive ramen burger, as well as cocktails such as the “Rootop Escape” (vodka, acai liqueur, lime juice and club soda) and “Spring Fizz” (gin, lemon juice, raspberries and soda.)

The rooftop renovation is part of a $15 million overhaul planned for the hotel, which Destination purchased earlier this year. The renovation will include all the rooms, as well as a new food and beverage program and reconfiguration of the lobby and meeting spaces.
