Southwest to add nonstop Las Vegas service from Dulles

Dallas-based Southwest Airlines, which is doubling the number of its flights at Reagan National Airport, is betting on demand for nonstop flights from Dulles International Airport to Las Vegas.

Starting Nov. 2, Southwest will offer one daily nonstop flight between Dulles and Vegas. Southwest’s Las Vegas service will compete with the same route offered by United Airlines.

US Airways flies nonstop to Vegas from Reagan National. Southwest, as well as Spirit Airlines, offers nonstop service to Vegas from BWI/Marshall Airport.

Southwest (NYSE: LUV) the dominant carrier at BWI, is expanding at National after winning slots given up by US Airways and American Airlines (NYSE: AAL) as part of their merger. Southwest will eventually account for about 11 percent of National’s daily departures.
