Developers aiming to get new F-35 at Farnborough

FARNBOROUGH, England (AP) — Lockheed Martin and the U.S. military say they are still hoping to show off the F-35B fighter at the Farnborough International Airshow — even though time is running out to get the aircraft across the Atlantic.

Developers are still hoping to debut the aircraft at the world’s premier aviation event in the south of England even though an engine fire has grounded the aircraft. They hope the problem will be resolved before the show ends Sunday.

Air Force Gen. Chris Bogdan acknowledged Monday that the timing of the fire was unfortunate but that developers did not believe the problem was a huge issue.

Bogdan says it’s “not a paper airplane. It’s a technological marvel.”

The aircraft is a star attraction of the show, which combines industry experts and aviation fans.
