Indonesia arrests suspect in robbery for terrorism

Tuesday - 4/2/2013, 5:00am  ET

JAKARTA, Indonesia (AP) -- Indonesian police have arrested a man wanted in connection with a jewelry shop robbery that they suspect was staged to raise funds for terrorism activities.

Police spokesman Brig. Gen. Boy Rafli Amar said Tuesday that Fajar Sidik was arrested last week in Central Java. He said Sidik is accused of providing guns used by alleged terrorists in recent robberies and attacks on police.

Amar said three of Sidik's alleged accomplices were killed and four others were arrested by police during a separate raid near Jakarta last month.

Indonesia has long struggled with the threat of domestic terrorism. Police say the extremist groups appear to be increasingly using robberies as a way to fund their activities.
