LAGOS, Nigeria (AP) -- An official says at least two people have survived after a boat carrying more than 100 people capsized off Nigeria.
National Emergency Management Agency spokesman Yushau Shuaib said Wednesday that nine bodies have been found following the incident believed to have occurred over the weekend about 40 nautical miles off the coast of the city of Calabar.
Shuaib said other survivors could have swum to the shore.
David Akate, who is involved in the rescue efforts, said the boat had still not been found Wednesday so its true capacity was not yet known.
Shuaib said it was also not clear what the boat's origin and destination were, but that authorities expect to get further details from the two survivors being treated in Calabar.
