US, Mideast envoys to meet in Saudi Arabia

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia (AP) — Saudi Arabia says it will host a meeting later this week, bringing together the United States and several Middle East countries to discuss terrorism in the region.

The official Saudi Press Agency says the gathering, which is to take place on Thursday in the Red Sea city of Jiddah, aims to address ways to combat the extremist organizations contributing to terrorism in the region.

It will include representatives from Gulf Arab nations, Egypt, Jordan and Turkey.

U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry is traveling to the kingdom and neighboring Jordan this week to discuss ways to bolster the stability of the new Iraqi government and combat the Islamic State militant group that has taken over large swaths of Iraq and Syria.
