WASHINGTON -- To commemorate Prince George's first birthday on July 22, The Royal Mint announced it will make a limited edition £5 sterling silver coin -- "a tribute fit for a prince."
Officially approved by Kate Middleton and Prince William, the coin features a unique cruciform version of the Royal Arms, along with floral emblems of the United Kingdom and of course, a crown design created for Queen Elizabeth II.
Similar coins, produced in the wake of Prince George's birth and his christening last year, sold out in mere days. The new first-birthday coin is expected to be in high demand as well.
Only 7,500 of these coins will be produced and made available to purchase for £80 each. A maximum of 10 coins can be allotted per household and early orders are highly recommended.
