WASHINGTON – A Canadian teen who posted a YouTube video last month about her years-long struggle with bullying was found dead Wednesday. Authorities think she committed suicide, The Huffington Post says.
Amanda Todd’s video says her story began in 7th grade when she began chatting with various people online via webcam. She said she was told she was beautiful and asked to flash the camera. She did, and one year later that picture was sent to everyone at her school.
The teen said she began suffering from anxiety, depression and panic disorders. Despite moving schools, her problems followed her and she was ostracized. At one point she says she was beaten up by a group of girls who filmed the incident, after which she went home and drank bleach in a suicide attempt.
“I’m not doing this for attention,” the description on her video reads. “I’m doing this to be an inspiration and to show that I can be strong.”
After her death Wednesday, a Facebook page called Rest in paradise Amanda Michelle Todd was created. The page had more than 27,000 likes as of Friday.
