Report: Nonaligned bloc backs Iran nuclear energy

Friday - 8/31/2012, 2:18pm  ET

TEHRAN, Iran (AP) - Iran's state TV says a summit of emerging nations has supported its right to the peaceful use of nuclear energy.

The broadcast says support for Iran's nuclear energy program was one of many articles approved in the final Tehran Declaration Friday at the end of the two-day meeting of the 120-nation Nonaligned Movement.

Tehran has been seeking to win support from the bloc, accounting for nearly two-thirds of U.N. member states, for its nuclear program.

The West accuses Iran of seeking to develop weapons. Iran denies the claims.
