Marine charged in NC death of fellow gate sentinel

CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. (AP) — A Marine corporal faces negligent homicide and other charges in connection with April’s fatal shooting of a fellow guard on duty at a North Carolina base.

Camp Lejeune spokesman 1st Lt. Adam Flores said Friday that Lance Cpl. Brandon Little of Birmingham, Alabama, will be court-martialed. He’s charged with dereliction of duty, negligent homicide and involuntary manslaughter. Flores says Little has elected to be represented by a military attorney.

Lance Cpl. Mark Boterf of Crowley, Texas, died April 8 after he received a single gunshot wound to the chest while on watch at the main entrance to the sprawling base. Military officials have said the 21-year-old’s death appears to have been an accident.

Little could face up to 10 years in the brig if he’s found guilty.
