Pizza Hut introduces pizza cookie in hopes of sweetening millennials’ experience

WASHINGTON — Pizza Hut is introducing a new product that will satisfy your sweet tooth.

On Monday, the pizza chain will roll out a pizza cookie that is 8 inches in diameter and cut into eight slices. The treat is being released in partnership with chocolate giant, Hershey and is being called the Ultimate Hershey’s Chocolate Chip Cookie.

Pizza Hut say the menu addition is aimed to draw in millennials.

“Millennials tell us it’s what they want,” Carrie Walsh, chief marketing officer at Pizza Hut, told USA TODAY. “They like to cap off a great pizza with a great dessert.”

Some 70 percent of consumers told Pizza Hut they want some sort of dessert after pizza and will go elsewhere if they don’t get it, Walsh said to USA TODAY.

Pizza Hut is hoping millennials’ social media savvy helps bring attention to the pizza cookie as it’s asking consumers to use hashtag #PizzaHutHersheys when they are eating it.

The dessert trend is a burgeoning one in the pizza industry. Domino’s has cinnamon sticks and chocolate cake while Papa John’s has apple pie and cinnamon dessert pizzas.

This isn’t Pizza Hut’s first venture in desserts either. In 2003, it added cinnamon sticks to the menu. In 2008, it added Hershey chocolate dunkers, which are chocolate-covered dipping sticks.

The cookie debuts nationwide for $4.99 with the purchase of a pizza or $5.99 as a single item.

“Our fans are in for an amazing, and great-tasting, experience as a result of this expanded partnership,” Walsh said in a news release.
