Deaf NFL player stars in inspiring Duracell commercial (Video)

WASHINGTON – A new Duracell commercial shows a deaf football player’s perseverance and is going viral on the Internet.

The commercial stars Seattle Seahawks running back Derrick Coleman, the NFL’s first legally deaf offensive player, according to USA TODAY. The ad has garnered more than 2.2 million views on YouTube since it was posted on Jan. 10.

Watch the ad below:

Coleman, who has been legally deaf since the age of 3, was not drafted in 2012. In late 2012, the Seahawks signed Coleman to the practice squad as a rookie free agent, according to his biography on the Seahawks website.

“When the world tells you ‘no,’ you have two options: You can roll over and quit – – or you can trust your power. Derrick Coleman, running back for the Seattle Seahawks, trusted the power within,” says the description on the Duracell ad on YouTube. “Although he’s deaf, he never let adversity stand in his way, on his road to the NFL.”
