FORT DRUM, N.Y. (AP) -- A team of U.S. Navy experts has arrived in central New York to help in the search for a military drone that crashed into Lake Ontario last week.
Officials with the New York Air National Guard's Syracuse-based 174th Attack Wing say the experts from the Fleet Forces Command in Virginia arrived Wednesday at the Oswego Coast Guard Station to prepare for search and recovery efforts to retrieve wreckage of the MQ-9 Reaper.
The drone crashed into the eastern end of Lake Ontario about 20 miles northeast of Oswego after taking off from Fort Drum on Nov. 12. Wreckage from the drone has been found along the shore near the Oswego-Jefferson county line.
Officials say Navy salvage divers may be brought in to recover any wreckage found on the bottom of the lake.
