NBC fires producer of misleading Trayvon Martin segment

WASHINGTON – There are multiple reports that the NBC producer of a misleading segment about the Trayvon Martin case has been fired.

The producer spliced together two comments George Zimmerman made in his 911 phone call to police before Zimmerman shot Martin, making Zimmerman’s actions sound racially motivated.

NBC declined to comment on the disciplinary actions and also declined to name the producer. The segment was shown on “Today” on March 27.

Two sources tell the New York Times that the producer was fired on Thursday.

The producer’s dismissal follows an internal investigation that led to NBC apologizing Tuesday for airing the misleading audio.
