STAFFORD, Va. - A 28-year-old Florida man has been arrested after authorities say he met and "married" a teenager in an online role-playing game and traveled to Virginia in an attempt to have sex with her.
Stafford County Sheriff's spokesman Bill Kennedy says Christopher Rodriguez took a train to Virginia from his home in Homestead, Fla., planning to have sex with a 14-year-old Stafford girl.
The two met in an online vampire-themed role-playing game called "Reign of Blood," and Kennedy says they were married in the game.
Online, Rodriguez was known as "Lord Gladivas" and she was known as "BeautifulArsyB***h." The two exchanged photos, including nude pictures, according to the Miami Herald.
Kennedy says Rodriguez, a former mechanic in the Navy, brought sleeping pills to Virginia and had planned to drug the young girl's parents and then take the girl.
At one point, Kennedy says Rodriguez threw rocks at the girl's window. The teen told him to leave but Rodriguez told her he would be back when she turns 18. That's when she came clean to her parents about what was going on and police were called.
Rodriguez is charged with using a computer to solicit a minor and distribution of a controlled substance to a minor. He's being arraigned Monday in Stafford and faces up to 80 years in prison.
