County leaders respond after two teens killed

WASHINGTON — Prince William County Police are investigating a pair of
homicides that left two teenagers dead over the course of one week.

Last Monday, Brenden Wilson, 16, was gunned down just steps from the
Woodbridge Senior High School parking lot.

Investigators have arrested five people in connection with that crime and they
say it appears to be drug related.

Meanwhile, another shooting occurred early Sunday.

According to police, it was not related to Wilson’s death. However, the
shooting left another teenager dead.

Christopher Weaver, 19, was killed and a 15-year old boy was injured. So
far, no one has been arrested.

Community leaders are now searching for answers.

“We’re going to be wanting a report from the police department on both
murders,” explains Corey Stewart, Chairman of the Prince William County Board
of Supervisors.

“Naturally, the board members are concerned especially when you’ve got two
murders within a week of young people,” he says.

According to Stewart, board members will investigate whether anything could
have been done to prevent the recent shooting deaths and what steps could be
taken to stop violence from escalating in the future.

The board has a meeting scheduled for Tuesday afternoon. Stewart expects this
issue to come up, although he stresses it appears to be a tragic coincidence.

“It is in no way indicative of a trend, or of a rising crime rate in the
county,” Stewart says.
