Teen charged with Manassas-area rape, robbery

WASHINGTON – A Manassas teenager has been arrested on rape and robbery charges following an attack and abduction of a Herndon woman last week.

Special Victims detectives and members of the Northern Virginia Gang Task Force served a search warrant at the teen’s home Tuesday, where the 17-year-old boy was arrested, Prince William County police announced Wednesday.

Police did not release the boy’s name nor the address of the raid.

In addition to the rape and abduction, investigators also linked the boy to two business robberies. The boy is charged with robbing the Maplewood Barbershop, 8350 Shoppers Square, Manassas, on March 1 and with attempting to rob the same barbershop March 28, police say.

The boy and another masked robber took a cellphone from a barbershop worker during the first heist. A shop employee confronted the teen during the second attempt and employees screamed at the robber, causing him to flee, police say.

Later on March 28, a 31-year-old woman told police that she was raped at gunpoint. She was walking to a friend’s home when a man with a gun forced her into a secluded area behind a townhouse. The woman called police from the area of Maplewood Drive and Peakwood Court and she was taken to the hospital.

Police say her attacker took her cellphone and cash and then fled the area. Police dogs and a helicopter were brought in to search for her attacker.

The boy was charged with rape, abduction with intent to defile, grand larceny, attempted robbery, two counts of robbery and three counts of using a firearm during the commission of a felony, police say.

He was being held at the Prince William County Juvenile Detention Center.
