WASHINGTON – Questions surround the Quantico Police Department after an audit revealed that money, drugs and a gun have gone missing.

InsideNova reports the Quantico Town Council hired Scott Roy, a Culpeper County sheriff’s captain, to audit the police department. The audit revealed “systematic problems,” including a “lack of record keeping” and “a lack of adherence to professional standards” within the agency.

More than $1,000 in cash and marijuana, seized as evidence in criminal investigations, and a Sig Sauer handgun are missing. The department also has a 12- gauge shotgun and a .45-caliber pistol, but no documents to prove where they came from. In addition. the audit revealed that the department does not have an equipment tracking system.

Quantico Mayor Kevin Brown told InsideNova the audit results were worse than he expected, but the majority of the police officers are professionals. The Town Council has required some police officers to take a polygraph test.

InsideNova reports that the Fairfax Field Office of the Virginia State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigations is conducting an investigation.
