WASHINGTON - The stepfather of a 4-year-old boy who accidentally shot himself to death has been arrested.
Prince William County police arrested Jasmine Darnell Matthews, 27, of Woodbridge, after consulting with the Commonwealth Attorney's Office.
An investigation found Matthews had left a loaded handgun in another family member's unlocked vehicle, which was parked in front of the residence.
Kyrell Kyyon McNeill accidentally shot himself in the head after finding the gun July 25.
McNeill was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Matthews has been charged with cruelty and injuries to children. He is out on $20,000 bond.
