DUMFRIES, Va. - A food pantry serving about 2,000 people in and around Prince William County is closing temporarily because of a lack of donations.
Action in Community Through Service shut the doors of its Dumfries food pantry this week, and will remain closed until Nov. 1. The pantry will continue to distribute perishable food items until they run out.
Taylor Lenz, the food pantry coordinator, says a decline in donations and a 40 percent increase in demand in recent months contributed to the closure. Lenz says the program has been serving more than 1,000 families and 4,000 individuals per month.
