WASHINGTON - A Manassas Park police officer and the man he may have shot are both in the hospital Sunday after an incident overnight in the city.
Police say the officer, who they are not identifying, was struck by a car as he responded to possible drug activity in the 8600 block of Cartwright Court at 1:49 a.m.
Police say Robert Washington III, 21, of Manassas "increased his speed and attempted to flee the area striking and running over the officer."
The officer, a five-year veteran of the force, suffered serious injuries and was taken to Inova Fairfax Hospital.
Washington fled on foot after hitting the officer and was found a short distance away, police said. He had been shot during the incident.
Police are not saying if the officer who was run over is responsible for shooting Washington. The suspect was also taken to Inova Fairfax Hospital.
Washington has been charged with the attempted murder of a police officer.
The officer is in stable condition with serious injuries. The condition of the suspect was not immediately known Sunday morning.
