DALE CITY, Va. - Although it's not prime vegetable season yet, there are fresh fruits, veggies, eggs, meats, flowers, herbs and baked goods available at local farmers markets.

On Saturday, the Manassas Farmers Market opened for the season and on Sunday, the Dale City Farmers Market opened.

For some, coming to the market is a longstanding family tradition.

"It's like opening day of baseball. You gotta come to the farmers market every single time it opens," says Russell, who came from Dumfries with his wife. "We're here every year on opening day."

Russell's wife, Laura, says they've been coming to the Dale City market for 10 years.

"A lot of these vendors have seen our daughter growing up," she says.

Elaine and her husband have been coming to the Dale City Farmers Market for more than 20 years -- rain or shine, cold weather or not.

"It's just like our traditional Sunday morning thing," she says.

With the push on to buy local and support local farmers, many people are turning to their local farmers market. And with the warmer weather eventually arriving, it may be a good time to jump start that New Year's resolution of eating better.
